About....

How I got started....

My name is Crystal Jolley and I am the wife of a wonderful man, Matt and the mother of two beautiful little girls, Anna Jaymes and Adolyn. Being a wife and mother are my priority jobs (because yes, they are jobs!) and then there is Phase 2, the college ministry my husband and I lead at MS State, and finally Blossoms & Vintage, my little hobby....blog.....painting....designing.....whatever it is!

{Just kidding....that plane is not the life I live....I did for one day, however. It was nice.}

{This is me recently with Adolyn....Anna Jaymes didn't

get many pics with me that day...typical 2 year old}

I am a true do-it-yourselfer and bargain hunter thanks to my frugal life of being in the ministry. This frugal life has been a blessing because I have learned so much about life itself, and I probably never would have found my niche in painting if it hadn't been for refreshing all the hand-me-downs and freebies off the curbs! (Some of these are in the photos)

I found that I love vintage finds and think reusing, refreshing and recycling old pieces (if they’re not already beautiful in their natural patina) is a perfect way to save money and be green...all while imagining and enjoying their history.

Because I design and decorate on a tight, tight, tight budget, practicality is important to me. I love being able to find vintage pieces that I can refresh to their fullest potential and put to practical use. Now, I say design, but I am no professional and do not claim that this is some inspirational design blog by any means! It's basically just a hodge podge of my life.

Some more details about Blossoms & Vintage....

simple living, chic practicalities, old world charm, old comfort, the beauty of imperfections, the personal stories of time-worn objects, great vintage finds, simplicity of the good ole days, country living, city living, good old americana, appreciation of what is used, well loved, and worn, unpretentious, french country, all things reused, recycled, and refreshed!

This is only a glimpse :) of what inspires me!

I am slowly preparing (since this IS just my hobby) to...hopefully...have a sale in 2010 and will be posting lots of things along the way...plus having some great giveaways! Now, these type "occasional" sales are pretty popular around the country, but I'm not so sure they've caught on here in the south, we'll see. I'd love to find more of them. Whew! Now, that I mentioned a sale, I feel the pressure!

So, I'll share projects and new pieces, some that may even be up for sale now. I'll also post some of my own personal projects I've been working on. I want to hear from you and get your opinions on things, so whether you are near or far, speak up and you’ll be entered in the giveaways!

I know I have many fellow do-it-yourselfers out there, so if you have questions, please feel free to ask! If anything, I hope this blog is inspiring to you to find and recycle something old and to be thrifty!

Why "Blossoms & VIntage"

With my love of reminiscing "the old days," I knew "Blossom" would be in the name. According to my papaw, I was "Blossom" when I was little....there were sometimes a few other "affectionate" choice words in front of blossom, but I will leave those out as I'm sure some of you may find them a little more "offensive" shall I say? I'm sure you know which ones I mean. :) Anyway, I love double meanings. Since I decided to make this blog about family and painting, I thought blossom was good for my projects and for my little girls. See...when I paint something old, it "blossoms" into something pretty and new again. See? Ok, I know it's corny, but I don't care. So, for now this is the name of my blog, and maybe one day it will actually be a little business.
